Etter Ole Bulls død i 1880 fortsatte Ole Bulls andre kone, Sara og deres datter Olea å benytte Lysøen. Det gjorde også hans datterdatter Sylvea Bull Curtis. Det var hun som i 1973 skjenket eiendommen - hele øen med påstående bygninger - til Fortidsminneforeningen. Fra 1984 har eiendommen hatt status som museum.
Sara Chapman Thorp Bull (May 24, 1850 – January 14, 1911;
née Sara Chapman Thorp; also known as
Saint Sara) was an American writer and philanthropist. She was a dedicated disciple of
Swami Vivekananda and was married to Ole Bull, a Norwegian violinist.
