Notes for Eldo Roy Murray
Eldo was one of eight
children, three of which served in WWI (Ernest Arthur, Clarence
Albert and Eldo Roy).

On June 5, 1917, at the age of 25, Eldo registered for the
mandatory draft in Richfield where he is working as an Engineer for the Dan Patch Railroad. He married Myrtle Karnopp in February of 1912 at the age of 23.

They divorce and he is single when he enlists in the National Army on June 24, 1918 and was
sent to Camp Grant, Illinois for training. He was assigned to the 86th “Black Hawk” Division,
311th Engineer Train Regiment, Company A.

On September 9, 1918 his unit set sail for France
on the Ship Empress of Asia. Due to the late date, the division saw no combat in World War I, however
they remained in Europe until June 13, 1919. They left from Bordeaux, France on the SS Radnor in route
to Philadelphia. He was released from Camp Dix, New Jersey on July 8, 1919.

When he returned to Minnesota, Eldo moved to Minneapolis and worked as an Engineer for the
Minneapolis/Northfield Southern Railroad Company for over fifty years. He married Margaret
Thompson (1902-1993) in 1927 at the age of 36. The couple had two daughters. He died in
Minneapolis at the age of 84. He is buried in the Crystal Lake Cemetery in Minneapolis.
